Picturing America

Art reflecting history & life

Welcome to the library and the Picturing America series of art hanging on the walls. Find a painting, picture or photograph of art that "calls to you" and research it a little bit!

One way to begin would be to chose the picture, and find out a little more about the artist. You should also find out some details about what was happening in America at that time.

Once you have a few cool facts about the artist and what was going on at the time, you can begin making assumptions. Remember: tie your assumptions into real facts you've found! That makes them more plausible (believable). You could be way off base in your assumptions, but if your argument supporting the assumption is clear, well-grounded in facts you've found, you've met the requirements of this assignment!

Good luck - and be ready to share (with visuals of course!) your findings with fellow students.

Here are some links that are a "must" - they will help you find relevant, reliable information.

Don't forget - you may NOT cite from wiki! (you can, however, use it to start searching for information)
