The school GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance) is very active and vocal in a community that fosters individuality. The library supports their events, hosting a number of them each year, and additionally, supports the students and encourages them to actively participate in the selection of reading materials available on the shelves. A number of booktalks have also been done with the group, highlighting interesting reads.
The display shown below (left) involved screens created by students in San Jose. The display was up for a week, and teachers were invited to bring classes through to view and read the displays. The pictures and content of the panels showed the effects of name calling and hatred and increased awareness of the similarities and differences among people.
